THE SKIING
Montchavin has its own attractive local ski area, which includes
some of the few wooded slopes in the region. There is an efficient lift system
to gain access to the main ski areas with a new 8-man chair at Arpette and also
a shuttle bus. The return runs to the village are kept open throughout the
season by an effective snow cannon system, but are not ideal for beginners who
can descend by lift instead.
Webcam on the Grande Rochette
Our Esprit Ski Escort will be available for at least 2 days
of the week to ski with you and introduce you to the area.

FAMILIES

Our chalets in the small farming village of Montchavin are a super base for
families on a skiing holiday, being close to both pistes and lifts. The small
alpine village, with its characterful centre, generates a feeling of warmth,
friendliness and safety.
BEGINNERS

Montchavin guests are normally taught on the local village slopes, progressing
to the pretty nursery slopes at Plan Bois as they improve. Here, gentle
undulating runs encourage beginners in the most scenic of settings.
INTERMEDIATES

The region is particularly good for intermediates because they can visit all the
interlinked resorts without difficulty. The area offers a wonderful combination
of motorway cruising slopes and more tricky testing ones. Runs down to Champagny
are exhilarating, requiring a snack stop before your return. The new link to Les
Arcs ensures that the intermediate skier will never have to ski the same run
twice!
ADVANCED

There are some hard, black pistes from the Bellecôte to Col de la Chiaupe and
extensive red runs with varying degrees of steepness.
POWDER POTENTIAL

There are some excellent off piste runs from the Bellecôte glacier down to Les
Bauches. Some of the itineraries are splendid but you will need a guide to make
the most of them. In new powder, the woods above Montchavin offer a veritable
playground for those who enjoy floating between the trees in light fluffy
powder.
SNOWBOARDING

Just above Montchavin is a fun-park at Plagne Bellecôte. There is also an area
with jumps on the Dos Rond. The area offers a range of slopes to cater for the
beginner boarder on gentle open pistes or the more challenging off-piste terrain
to be explored with a guide.
APRÈS SKI
Montchavin has a small variety of cafés, bars and restaurants
but the main centres for active and lively nightlife are Plagne-Centre and
Belle-Plagne, accessible by taxi in the evenings.
